7 Days in Morocco: Marrakech, Sahara, Fes & Casablanca Itinerary

Planning 7 days in Morocco? One week is not enough to see the whole country, but it is enough for a memorable route combining an imperial city, mountain scenery, the Sahara and a modern coastal metropolis.

This itinerary follows a practical route: Marrakech → High Atlas → Merzouga → Fes → Casablanca.

Day 1: Arrive in Marrakech

Start with the medina, Jemaa el-Fna, the souks and the Koutoubia area. Keep the first day flexible so you can settle in and adjust to the city.

Day 2: Explore Marrakech

Spend the day visiting Bahia Palace, historic neighborhoods, gardens and local food spots. Avoid trying to fit too much into one day.

Day 3: High Atlas and Aït Ben Haddou

Leave Marrakech early and cross the High Atlas. Stop at Aït Ben Haddou before continuing toward Ouarzazate or the Dades Valley.

Day 4: Merzouga and a night in the Sahara

Continue toward Merzouga and aim to arrive before sunset. The Erg Chebbi dunes are one of the most iconic desert landscapes in Morocco, and an overnight stay gives you time to experience the area beyond a quick stop.

Day 5: Merzouga to Fes

This is a long travel day. Leave early and travel through the Ziz Valley and Middle Atlas before reaching Fes.

Day 6: Discover Fes

Explore Fes el-Bali, the medina, traditional workshops and historic landmarks. Fes is best discovered slowly and mostly on foot.

Day 7: Casablanca and departure

Finish your trip in Casablanca. The Hassan II Mosque is the main highlight for many first-time visitors. If your return flight leaves from Marrakech, skip Casablanca and travel back there instead.

How to get around during this 7-day itinerary

A rental car or private driver is the easiest option for the southern route. Between major cities, trains and long-distance coaches are useful alternatives.

How much should you budget?

Your total cost depends mainly on accommodation and transportation. Desert camps and private transfers tend to increase the budget, while local restaurants and public transport can keep daily costs under control.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Trying to visit too many cities.
  • Underestimating driving times.
  • Booking an early flight on the final day.
  • Carrying too much luggage.
